About Our Program
Phoebe Structural Heart is a specialized program based at Albany Medical Center, dedicated to diagnosing and treating structural heart conditions through minimally invasive transcatheter techniques — procedures performed through a small puncture in the groin or chest, rather than traditional open-heart surgery.
Our multidisciplinary team of interventional cardiologists works closely with cardiac surgeons, imaging specialists, and primary care physicians to develop individualized treatment plans for patients with aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation, and other structural heart diseases.
Whether you've been told open surgery carries too much risk, or you're exploring your options for the first time, we provide a thorough evaluation and clear guidance — so you can make informed decisions about your heart health.
Procedures We Offer
Transcatheter technologies allow us to repair or replace heart valves through catheters threaded through blood vessels — avoiding the trauma of sternotomy.
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement replaces a narrowed aortic valve through a catheter inserted via the femoral artery. Typically performed under conscious sedation, with many patients discharged within 1–3 days.
Transcatheter · No sternotomy · Quick recovery
MitraClip is a catheter-based therapy for significant mitral regurgitation. A small clip is delivered through the femoral vein to gently reshape the mitral valve leaflets and restore proper blood flow.
Transcatheter edge-to-edge · Minimally invasive
Comprehensive echocardiography, cardiac CT, and cardiovascular MRI provide the detailed anatomical maps needed to plan transcatheter procedures and monitor long-term outcomes.
Echo · CT · MRI · Pre-procedural planning
Why Choose Us
01
Interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and imaging specialists collaborate on every case to determine the safest, most effective approach.
02
Transcatheter procedures are performed through small vascular access points, eliminating the need for sternotomy and cardiopulmonary bypass in most cases.
03
Advanced structural heart care available at Albany Medical Center — without the need to travel to a distant academic center for evaluation and treatment.
04
We take the time to explain your anatomy, your options, and what recovery looks like — so you and your family can move forward with confidence.
Taking the Next Step
A structural heart evaluation can determine whether a transcatheter approach is right for your specific condition — at no additional cost and with no obligation.
